Finally a tiny piece of ‘objective’ news as a consolation for justice to Hindus.

BUT, imagine what the coverage would have been if it was seven Hindus convicted for the murder of a Christian pastor ……..

Seven convicted for Laxmanananda murder of 2008

IANS Sep 30, 2013, 10.33PM IST

BHUBANESWAR: A court in Odisha Monday held seven people guilty of the murder of Swami Laxmananda Saraswati and four of his aides in Kandhamal district of Odisha in 2008, a lawyer said Monday.

Special additional district session Judge R.K. Tose pronounced the verdict in his court at Phulbani, the headquarters of Kandhamal district, about 200 km from state capital Bhubaneswar, prosecution lawyer Bhagaban Mohanty told IANS.

The quantum of sentence would be pronounced Oct 3, he said.

Those convicted were Duryodhan Suna Majhi, Munda Bada Majhi, Sanatan Bada Majhi, Garnatha Chalanseth, Bijay Kumar Samseth, Bhaskar Suna Majhi and Budhadev Nayak.

The convicts were part of a mob of about 50 people who had attacked the swami and his aides, the lawyer said.

All of the convicts are Christians and they had committed the crime because according to them the swami was forcing Christians to convert to Hinduism, the lawyer said.

Two of the men were convicted under the Indian Arms Act, 1959, for possession of illegal guns, the lawyer said. “The judge convicted them purely on the basis of circumstantial evidence and the deposition of witnesses,” said lawyer Mohanty.

Saraswati and four of his aides were killed at his ashram at Jaleshpata in Kandhamal district Aug 23, 2008. The killing triggered communal violence in the state, in which at least 38 people were killed.

More than 25,000 Christians were forced to flee their homes after their houses were attacked by rampaging mobs, who held Christians responsible for the murders. Police, however, blamed the murders on the Maoists.

Police arrested seven people and filed a charge sheet against them in January 2009.

The crime branch subsequently arrested two more people, including Maoist leader Polari Rama Rao. It also filed a supplementary charge sheet in 2011 against them and five others, including Maoist leader Sabyasachi Panda, who are still absconding.

The court is scheduled to pronounce its judgment on the second charge sheet Tuesday.

The BJP welcomed the decision.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ashok Sahu said: “We welcome the court’s verdict. The investigation should continue till all the conspirators are nabbed.”

“A criminal has to be punished whichever religion he belongs to. The moment he commits a crime he loses his religion,” Orissa Minority Forum president Swarupananda Patra told IANS.

Ironically Hindu Bengalee, be it a commoner, an intellectual, a politician or a media-person, are ever eager to  project that ‘All is well’ . Seldom to they have the guts or the inclination to speak the truth, ever afraid that they will be identified as ‘communal’

Thus it takes non-Bengalees and non-Hindus to speak for them ….

The Jihad against Bengali

By Janet Levy (http://www.americanthinker.com/janet_levy/)

Every February 21, a little-known observance occurs: International Mother Language Day.  Created in 2000 to promote and encourage the diversity of language, this benign and idealistic-sounding commemoration actually marks a bloody day in 1952 when an Islamic minority shot and killed university students protesting the imposition of an Islamic language, Urdu, on a Bengali-speaking majority in Pakistan.

The students who died that day understood that forced reconfiguration of a language can have cataclysmic and devastating effects on a society.  Community identification can be shifted, populations and their practices repressed, and the established rhythm of daily life disrupted.

In the Middle East and the Indian subcontinent, Muslims have for centuries used Arabic languages as part of their jihad against Christians and Hindus.  A blatant example of this phenomenon occurred in 8th century Coptic-speaking Egypt when Muslims conquered the Christian nation and designated Arabic as the sole administrative language.  Coptic, which had flourished as a literary and liturgical language, was purposely denigrated by the Muslim conquerors and eventually prohibited in favor of Arabic, the language of Mohammed.  Today, Copts continue to be besieged by the Muslim majority in Egypt, and only a few hundred people speak the Coptic language.

A similar struggle occurs with the Bengali language.  Although the student deaths of 1952 sparked a successful movement to create an independent Bangladesh, the majority Muslim population in that country persecutes Hindus and is Islamizing the Bengali language itself as a sort of linguistic Muslim jihad which has been going on for centuries.

History – Urdu vs. Bengali

Beginning almost 900 years ago, Urdu, a language associated with Muslims in India and Pakistan, was appropriated from Sanskrit-based Hindi over centuries of conquests by Persian, Arabic, and Turkic Muslims.  To create Urdu, the Muslim conquerors took Hindi and Islamicized it by injecting new words, changing existing words, and writing the language in Arabic script.  By de-Sanskritizing Hindi to develop Urdu, Muslim rulers de-Hinduized the language as a way of diminishing the infidel faith.  As Latin is to Christianity, Sanskrit defines Hinduism and is the language of Hindu clerics and scriptures.

In 1948, shortly after Pakistan gained independence from the British government, the newly installed Islamic government declared Urdu the official language of West and East Pakistan, now Bangladesh.  At the time, Sanskrit-based Bengali was the language of the vast majority of Bengalis, the inhabitants of East Pakistan, both Hindus and Muslims.

The Urdu language edict created great hardship for Hindus and Bengali-speaking Muslims who were not particularly proficient in Urdu.  Although Bengalis were a majority linguistic group, under the Urdu language requirement they faced discrimination and experienced alienation from mainstream Pakistani society.  Both Bengali Hindus and Muslims had difficulty finding employment and were discouraged from joining the Army, an important affiliation conferring social standing in Pakistan.

Bengali Language Movement

At the time when the Urdu language mandate was introduced, Muslims in Bangladesh were being pressured to become more Muslim in practice, to Islamicize the region, and to join Urdu Islamic political parties in Pakistan.  Bengali Muslims resisted, as they had a cultural affinity to Bengali and felt they were not getting their fair share of power in Pakistani politics relative to their numbers.  Out of the six major linguistic groups — Bengali, Urdu, Sindi, Punjabi, Pastho, and Baloch — Bengali was the largest in Pakistan.  Bengali Muslims came from a distinctly different cultural background from the Muslims in West Pakistan and had little in common with the other groups except Islam.  To thwart Bengali domination, the other linguistic groups banded together to reduce the influence of the Muslims of East Pakistan, thus isolating the Bengali Muslims.

After the declaration of Urdu as the official language, extensive protests erupted amongst the Bengali-speaking majority of East Pakistan, both Hindu and Muslim.  Due to the rising tensions and demonstrations against the new law, the government outlawed all public meetings and rallies.

On February 21, 1952, students protested the language edict and called for a general strike.  Amidst peaceful protests, the police fired on protesters and killed several students.  In 1956 following numerous protests over the years, the government relented and granted official status to the Bengali language.

The Bengali Language Movement strengthened the national identity of Bengalis living in Pakistan and eventually led to Bangladesh’s war for independence from Pakistan in 1971.  Suffering greatly from Muslim persecution, at least 20 million Hindus fled to India from East Pakistan from 1947-1971.  About one million Hindus were killed.  In the fight for independence in 1971, Muslims killed an additional 2.5 million Hindus.  Also during the conflict, the Pakistan Army bulldozed one of the most famous Hindu temples in the Indian subcontinent, believed to be over 1,000 years old.

In 1971, Hindus were declared enemies of the state of Pakistan and the government instituted the Enemy Property Act.  False allegations were made by the Muslim government that Hindus were spies for India, and their property was confiscated.  Following the independence of Bangladesh, the newly installed Muslim government retained the Pakistani law, merely changing its name to the Vested Property Act.  Approximately 75% of Hindu land in the area has been confiscated over time.

The Jihad against Bengali

Today, Hindus in Bangladesh and throughout the Indian subcontinent are reluctant to make demands in a majority Muslim country.  They typically remain silent about grievances, as they have little hope of equitable resolutions under Muslim control.  Their activities are limited, and they regularly face discrimination.  They are accountable to their Muslim masters, have fewer rights, and their movements are restricted.  It is not uncommon for a Muslim to stop and question a Hindu in transit, inquire of his travel plans, and demand to see his documents as well as the money he is carrying, which can be extorted with impunity.

Yet, ironically, the Bengali Language Movement is commemorated each year in Bangladesh on February 21 primarily by Bengali Muslims, who hold rallies across the country.   This same Muslim majority which allows the oppression of Hindus in Bangladesh is also Islamizing the Bengali language.  They have de-Hinduized certain words in their ongoing attempt to eradicate infidel Hindu culture.  For example, the Bengali word for “deity” has been replaced by a word that means “Allah” in Farsi, and the word for “water” has been substituted with an Urdu word.  An indigenous flowering tree named “Krishnachura,” referring to a flower worn in the headdress of the Hindu deity, has been renamed by Muslims to “Mohammed Chura.”

For Bengali Hindus, the battle to preserve their language and culture appears to have been a pyrrhic victory, and a temporary one at that.  With constant attacks on their businesses, homes, and temples sanctioned by the Vested Property Act, their numbers have diminished from one-third of the population at the time of partition to fewer than 10% today.  Ultimately, their language has become less representative of their culture and religious beliefs, they cower to the demands of the Muslim majority, and they continue to face grave threats to their survival.  The Bengali jihad may ultimately reduce the Hindus to the fate of the Copts, and the celebration of Mother Language Day may actually finally honor a language far removed from its Hindu and Sanskrit roots and now, instead, symbolic of Muslim expansionism.

Secularism in a muslim majority country? That too in Bangladesh! That is like trying to straighten a dog’s tail!!

Hindus comprised nearly 30% of the total population in Bangladesh in 1947 and since then the Hindu population has dwindled from 22% in 1951 census to 15 per cent in 1991 and less than 10% in 2009.  About 2.5 million Hindus were slaughtered in the war in 1971. In 2009 the population of Bangladesh was estimated at 156 million. About 90% of Bangladeshis are Muslims and the remainder are mostly Hindus.

In contrast,  according to the 2001 census the Muslim population has increased to over 28% of the total in West Bengal and 31% in the state of Assam. At partition, only Murshidabad district was dominated by Muslims in West Bengal. But at present, two other districts, Maldah and North Dinajpur, have been added to the list.

Thus the  riot and subsequent abandonment of Durga Puja by 42 Puja Committee in Deganga is not an isolated event nor is it the last atrocity.

Violence mars Durga Puja festivities in Bangladesh

Dhaka, Oct 17 (IANS)  Attacks by drunken mobs and even policemen on Hindu devotees and Durga Puja marquees in many parts of Bangladesh marred the festivities of the country’s minority community even as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina stressed on the virtues of secularism.

Reports of violence came from across the country as the biggest religious festival of the minority Hindu community ended Sunday.

The authorities withdrew policemen and closed down a police station after cops were found attacking Puja Mandaps, the makeshift bamboo-and-cloth marquees erected for the festival at some places, bdnews24.com, a newspaper website reported.

In Narayanganj, just outside Dhaka, two people were arrested for vandalism, loot and attack on a Puja pavillion at Tanbazaar.

Witnesses said at least 10 people were injured when around 15 drunk men attacked Hindus devotees, who were dancing at a pavilion in Minabazar area of Tanbazar early Saturday.

They stabbed organising secretary of the Puja celebration committee of the area, Ankan Saha Rana, 35, and member Sumon Das, 24, when they attempted to stop the drunks.

In Sunamganj in northeastern Bangladesh, six policemen including a sub-inspector were withdrawn from a police station for attacking devotees at a temple in Tahirpur Upazila (sub-district).

A sub-inspector of Sherpur Sadar Police Station in central Bangladesh was withdrawn to the police lines for burning a festoon with the image of goddess Durga.

Acting Superintendent of Police (Sherpur) Mohammad Anisur Rahman said legal steps will be taken against Badruzzaman, the sub-inspector.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina stressed on virtues of secularism and said her country was ‘non-communal’ while speaking at a function hosted by Hindus in the national capital Saturday.

Hasina said that 27,000 Durga Puja mandaps or marquees were erected across the country this year, the highest ever. Similarly, 94,000 Muslims were proceeding on Haj to Saudi Arabia, which was also the highest, denoting freedom to practice different faiths.

‘Secularism is one of the four pillars of the country’s constitution and has no meaning if people cannot practice their religions,’ she said during her visit to the Dhakeshwari Temple Saturday, which marked the Mahanabami, a high point of the Hindu festival.

But the New Age newspaper said: ‘Even as the prime minister speaks of secularism and thanks her law enforcers for ensuring a peaceful environment, there are reports of attacks, even by cops, on puja mandaps across the country.’

‘Secularism’ to be restored in Bangladesh constitution

Dhaka: Bangladesh will shortly restore the word ‘secularism’ in its constitution. However, it will remain an Islamic state , allowing functioning of religion-based parties, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said.

The government will reprint the constitution following a Supreme Court directive to restore ‘secularism’, but no political party bearing names of religions would be banned, a cabinet meeting chaired by Hasina decided Monday.

She told a weekly cabinet meeting that the reprinted constitution would restore secularism “as a fundamental state principle”, New Age newspaper said quoting a minister who attended the meeting.

Hasina asked her ministerial colleagues to “go to people and make sure they have no confusion about constitution amendments”, the minister said.

Her government would sit with the political parties named after Islam “to make them understand that secularism was not against religious faiths”.

The official cited many countries where Christianity was state religion but had secular polity, the Daily Star newspaper said.

A large majority of Bangladesh’s 156 million people are Sunni Muslims with Hindus, Buddhists and Christians forming less than ten percent of the population.

Religion-based political activity was banned in Bangladesh that separated from Pakistan in 1971 as these parties, including the Muslim League and the Jamaat-e-Islami , had opposed the freedom movement.

They were brought back to the political mainstream after the changes triggered by the assassination of the country’s founding leader and president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in August 1975.

Personally, I would have preferred a more active protest rather than this somewhat Gandhian variety of protest by not performing Durga Puja at all. Somehow I feel that this plays into the hands of the anti Hindu forces. However it is highly possible that ground conditions are very different for which the brave soldiers of Hindu Samhati and the Hindus of the area including the 42 Puja committees have taken this collective  decision.

Another glaring example of the absence of the Hindu-hating and minority-appeasing media, the opportunistic activists and the pseudosecular politicains at the time of Hindu plight.

WB town boycotts Durga Puja

Kolkata, Oct 14 (IBNS).

Forty-two Durga Puja mandaps (marquees) across a West Bengal town have gone ’empty’…literally.

The biggest festival of the Bengalis, for which the populace excitedly waits the full year, has been sacrificed and boycotted by the Goddess’ followers.

Located in Barasat Subdivision of North 24 Parganas district, Deganga Hindus have decided not to bring Mother Durga and her 4 children (Lakshmi, Ganesha, Saraswati and Kartik) home and celebrate the Pujas this year.

The reason being attacks on locals by a Member of Parliament (MP), claimed Hindu Samhati, an organization working for rehabilitation of Hindus in West Bengal.

“Over 500 Hindu homes and 500 Hindu owned businesses have been attacked, multiple Hindu temples have been desecrated and defiled, all with synchronized orchestration by a planned well organized mob under the leadership of MP Haji Nurul Islam. All within a three day span in September,” claimed Hindu Samhati in a press statement.

The festival is being boycotted by all the Puja committees of the Deganga Puja Samanvay Committee.

“They hope that this will catch the attention of the anti-Hindu media, anti-Hindu administration, anti-Hindu Police, and the anti-Hindu politicians of West Bengal,” said the organization.

Hindu Samhati said it endorses to the ‘fullest’ the decision by the Puja Samanvay Committee to boycott this Puja in protest of the anti Hindu stance of the West Bengal media, administration, police and politicians.

“We want to see that the situation is changed, so that we would be able to do the Pujas in full pristine form in 2011, or else, we have to expand our struggle beyond Deganga and North 24 Parganas,” said a spokesperson.

In October-November 1946 the whole of India, especially North and Central India observed a Black Diwali in protest against the horrific riots and Hindu genocide in Noakhali, in erstwhile East Bengal.

This could turn out to be a major disappointment for CBI (the Congress Bureau of Investigation), and for the saffron-hating Home Minister,  Mr. P Chidambaram.

Huji, not Hindu group, behind Mecca Masjid blast’

Though the CBI has sought to establish the hand of a Hindu terror group in the 2007 Mecca Masjid blast, a US counter-terrorism agency thinks otherwise. According to the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC), the blast was allegedly executed by a Pakistan-sponsored terror outfit, the Harkat ul-Jehad-e-Islami (HuJI).

NCTC director Michael Leiter, submitted as much in his ‘Statement for the Record’ before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, on Wednesday.

Before the CBI took over the case, the Hyderabad police too had named the HuJI as the blast’s alleged executor.

“The group also has been involved in multiple, high-casualty attacks… in India in May 2007 that killed 16,” read Leiter’s statement.

He added, “HuJI has collaborated with Al-Qaeda on attacks and training for HuJI members. In January 2009, a federal grand jury indicted HUJI commander Mohammad Ilyas Kashmiri in absentia for a disrupted terrorist plot against a newspaper in Denmark.”

The group was also allegedly involved in an attack against Pakistani intelligence and police facilities in Lahore in 2009 that killed 23, according to Leiter.

CBI’s probe findings, however, have claimed that an Indore-based terror outfit whose members were allegedly linked to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh perpetrated the mosque attack.

The agency has arrested two accused in the case — Lokesh Sharma and Devender Gupta — and is looking for the alleged bomb makers, Sandeep Dange and Ramchandra Kalsangra.

“The NCTC does not seem to be updated with the developments in the case, which is surprising,” said a senior CBI investigator when HT asked him about the US agency’s version on the attack’s suspected perpetrators.

UN, USA dampen secular propaganda of Hindu Terrorism

Only if Hindus had even the basic understanding, could figure out and actually act accordingly,  for their own benefit ……

While hapless Hindus are terrorized by Muslim mob, lead by TMC party’s Muslim MP in Deganga, while the coward, so-called bhadrolok and intellectual Hindus are pre-occupied, tightening the mask of secularism over their face, while the gutless Bengali media, is busy shoving Muslim atrocities under the carpet and the clueless and  ever- somnolent majority Bengali Hindus, like anywhere else in the world, oblivious merely within 50 years of the pain of partition, are hoping that and there luck will change once Didi takes over from CPI-M, this is what Didi is actually counting on to bring her and keep her in power, with or without Hindus….

Meanwhile, the existing CPI-M government, bent on regaining their lost hold over Muslim votes, is doling out ‘gifts’ to the Muslim community, expectedly a large portion of which is illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, at the cost of jobs and facilities for the Hindus, off course.

How long will it take before the next partition, before West Bengal becomes another Kashmir and where do Bengali Hindus plan to migrate this time?

West Bengal increases OBC quota for Muslims

 2010-09-24

Kolkata: The West Bengal government on Friday issued notification to increase reservation in the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category from seven percent to 17 percent by introducing a ‘more backward’ classification to benefit the Muslim communities.

Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee at state secretariat Writers’ Building said: ‘The reservation of the OBC will now be 17 percent from 7 percent, whereas there will be classifications within the OBC category. OBC communities would be divided into – ‘backward’ and ‘more backward’ according to their educational, financial and social status. The backward group will enjoy seven percent reservation, while the more backward group will enjoy 10 percent reservation.’

According to a senior official of state Backward Classes Welfare (BCW) department, a total 108 communities from all religions are included in the OBC category, of which 53 are Muslim communities while 45 are Hindu communities. Nine are from Buddhist and another one from Jain community.

‘Now with the classification in OBC category, 56 out of total 108 communities have been regarded as the ‘more backward’ classes. The more backward classes comprise 49 Muslims, six Hindu and one Buddhist communities,’ said the senior official.

The officer further said: ‘The 53 Muslim communities together cover a population of 1.73 crore, or over 86 percent of the total Muslim population (2.02 crore) in the state. So 49 out of 56 Muslim communities are being regarded as ‘more backward’, which accounts for 99 percent of the Muslim population in the OBC category.’

The chief minister had earlier promised introduction of 10 percent reservation in government jobs for Muslims in the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category but the state backward classes welfare (BCW) realised that it is not possible to introduce 10 percent reservation for Muslims in the OBC category due to the Constitutional bar.

In order to find a way out, a ‘more backward’ classification within the OBC category was introduced, where the majority of Muslim communities in the state are included.

Currently, there is seven percent reservation for OBC, 22 percent quota for Scheduled Castes and six percent for Scheduled Tribes in government recruitment in the state

Saffron Terror: An Analysis

 by Arindam Bandyopadhyay

Recently when he tried to highlight the phenomenon of ‘Saffron Terror’, for a moment one wondered whether our Home Minister, Mr. P Chidambaram was suffering from a selective and specific form of color-blindness and was seeing saffron instead of green, red or white. But soon it became clear that it was not a casual statement or even a cheap political gimmick because despite protest from political opponents and even from members of his own party, he stood firm on his statement and justified that he wanted to make a point and sent home a message.

As such, India’s reputation in countering terrorism is dismal at best but one shudders to imagine of having a malicious Home Minister who is unable and likely unwilling to judge the true color of terrorism.

One may recall that not too long ago, while he was the Finance Minister, Mr. P Chidambaram once commented that India was never a rich country. A more patriotic effort on his part would have enlightened him that in the past two millennia, till the pre- colonial days, India contributed to about a quarter of the world GDP. One would have expected him to know that the numerous invaders of Bharat, throughout the centuries, starting from the Greek Alexander, through the Arabic marauders and down to the European colonials, all came to this country only because they wanted to loot her wealth and riches. America was accidentally ‘discovered’ because Columbus wanted to go to India and that is history.

The most heinous of these invaders of India were off course the nomadic sword wielding barbarians of the Islamic world. Will Durant (1885-1981), American historian, described that the Mohammedan conquest of India is probably the bloodiest story in history.

Rizwan Salim of New York Tribune, wrote, “Savages at a very low level of civilization and no culture worth the name, from Arabia and west Asia, began entering India from the early century onwards …. demolished countless Hindu temples, shattered uncountable sculpture and idols, plundered innumerable palaces and forts of Hindu kings, killed vast numbers of Hindu men and carried off Hindu women..…… many Indians do not seem to recognize that the alien Muslim marauders destroyed the historical evolution of the earth’s most mentally advanced civilization, the most richly imaginative culture, and the most vigorously creative society.

That was the beginning of Islamic terrorism in India and it still continues. Only the names of the terrorist has changed over time from Ghazni, Ghori, bin Qasim, Tughlak, Khilji, Babur to SIMI, LeT, HuJi, JeM, Indian Mujaheddin, Afzal and Kasab in the modern age.

Islamic terror had caused death of an estimated 80-100 million, mostly innocent and unarmed Hindus, over the centuries. Mountains were raised of skulls and bones of Hindus captured and put to death, just for the mere pleasure of killing the kafirs. Over 30000 temples were plundered and grazed.

Later similar terror was systematically planned in the Direct action day and in the Noakhali murders of 1946 and in the estimated 3 million targeted Hindus murders during the Bangladesh war in 1971.

In recent times, India attained the dubious distinction of being one of the worst terror- affected countries. Indians are used to the monotony of terrorist acts – from the numerous serial blasts affecting major cities of India to the burning alive of 59 innocent karsevaks in the Sabarmati Express near Godhra, to the assault on the Indian Parliament house and in the Mumbai carnage of Nov 2008.

As in any act of terror anywhere in the world today, be it New York, London, Madrid Russia, Indonesia or Uganda, it does not take much effort to guess who the perpetrators of the acts are. It is only newsworthy when it is not an Islamic fundamentalist person or group.

It was hoped that after Independence, especially after the havoc of Partition, India would have had learnt a lesson from past and would build a strong nation so that history does not repeat itself. But we watch with horror now that terror has affected much deeper and much higher than our worst imagination. Terror has affected the function at the highest level of the Indian government, which is widely perceived as soft on Islamic terror. It has not only failed utterly to diagnose the problems, formulate concrete plans and strengthen its anti-terror approaches, but it keeps on extending its self defeating principle of pacifying terror and terrorists with a false hope that it will be able to change hearts and all will be well in the end. It shudders to carry out the Supreme Court verdict of Afzal Guru, a convicted criminal in the eyes of the law of the land, in fear of possible retaliation from minorities. The country was seen humiliated on the TV screen all over the world, during the Mumbai carnage of November 2008 and all we have done to restore our pride and honor was to make heaps of dossiers and send them all over the world, with zero effect. Yet our clueless Prime Minister is all too happy to demoralize his own law and order machinery and send good wishes to the leaders of the terrorists, literally begging for peace again and again.

Our administration dances to the tune of separatists, pampers fake activists and even allows itself to be held captive by handful of professional’ stone pelters, if they are belonging to minority groups.

Most of our leaders compete amongst themselves, each trying to establish himself more secular and Muslim-loving than the other, each trying to bend back even further and offer more concessions to catch that illusive minority vote bank, wasting national interest down the drain.

The media has long lost its role in nation building. It is either intimidated or sold-out, selling deceptions and half-truths to sensationalize and blatantly misrepresenting facts with the excuse of maintaining communal harmony, so that Muslims are not offended.

This policy of Muslim appeasement has not even spared our security personnel, who are putting their lives on the line of fire daily and die in dozens. They are themselves insecure, not only from being ill-trained and ill equipped, but also from being portrayed as the villain, castigated by the same media and leaders, crying Muslim victimhood, at the drop of a hat.

The only other act of courage that is left behind for these leaders and the media is to expand the story of a few bomb blast and raise the phantom of Hindu or saffron terrorism and incessantly propagandize that, so the inflated image can match the menace of Islamic terrorism.

Recently, Mr. B Raman, former head of the counter-terrorism division of RAW, analyzed the arrest of some Hindus as terrorists and concluded that according to American investigators the LET and Al Qaeda were responsible for the Samjauta Express blast and the HUJI for the Mecca Masjid blast. If the American investigators, who have better sources in Pakistan, are correct, how can our investigators claim that some arrested Hindus were responsible for these incidents? Justice and fair play demand a thorough investigation into the two different versions that have emerged from Indian and American investigators. While the American investigators have blamed the LET, Al Qaeda and the HUJI, Indian investigators have blamed the Abhinav Bharat. Both cannot be correct.”

Thus the Home Minister has not only deliberately and deceptively sanctioned the accusation with his statement even before any verdict has been declared but actually insulted the majority population of the country and the billion plus Hindus of the world’s third largest faith, by purposefully dragging the word saffron into it. He had endorsed the growing suspicion of Hindus that they are unwelcome in their motherland. The mere word ‘Hindu’ is despicable now. To claim to be a Hindu in India is reckoned as inciting ‘communalism’. And by extension, the color ‘saffron’, notwithstanding its presence in the Indian tricolor, is disreputable, because of its association with Hindu religion.

Saffron is considered the sacred color that has been embraced by Sanatan Dharma and the other faiths of Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism, that emanated from this blessed land of Bharat. It symbolizes sacrifice, salvation and renunciation – qualities that had formed the basis of the ancient civilization that still thrives in this land. It is the color donned by sages and saints, including Sankaracharya, and Vivekananda who have graced and blessed us, from time immemorial.

Saffron glorifies our National Flag to emphasize the same characters. Our first President, Dr. S.Radhakrishnan thus explained, “…the saffron color denotes renunciation of disinterestedness. Our leaders must be indifferent to material gains and dedicate themselves to their work. The white in the centre is light, the path of truth to guide our conduct. The green shows our relation to soil, our relation to the plant life here on which all other life depends. The Ashoka Wheel in the center of the white is the wheel of the law of dharma. Truth or satya, dharma or virtue ought to be the controlling principles of those who work under this flag.”

Thus, saffron is the color of the truthful and dharmic civilization that originated from India and influenced human evolution over the whole world. Unlike the persecuting, essentially fundamentalist and exclusive faiths of early Judaism, Christianity and Islam, Indic religions like Hinduism and Buddhism have never seeked religious or scriptural sanction of faith based atrocities, have never preached any holy wars, be it crusades or jihads and have never approved proselytizing religious imperialism to justify political or economic oppression of others.

Despite centuries of oppression and terror, The Hindus civilization is still thriving, while all the other ancient civilizations of the Greeks, the Romans, the Egyptians, the Mayans and Aztecs have been destroyed by either Islam or Christianity. True, Hindus were forced to remain second class citizens in their own land, for centuries. But Hindus never shied away from fighting the evil forces and the tyrants. They won some but unfortunately lost more. Despite being deceived numerous times and broken at other times, they did not bend. They retreated into their shell but remained faithful to their dharma, took their destiny on stride and survived centuries – the longest surviving ancient civilization on planet earth. They gave shelters to others similarly oppressed – the Jews, the Syrian Christians and the Zoroastrians. They earned their fame as ‘tolerant’, ‘nonviolent’, ‘truthful’ and ‘peace-loving’ – accolades they cherished as virtues that were not to be sacrificed, even on the threat of destruction and annihilation. They gained their strength from their scriptures and their itihaas, from the collective blessings of their sages and saints and from the cumulated benefits of following the path of dharma and good karma.

They regard their land as their Bharatmata; they hail her as Vande Mataram.  And they have learnt to protect her with their lives. For Hindus believe in offering self sacrifice. They know that saffron is also the color of fire which they have been worshipping in the form of Yajna, since Vedic times. They are aware that fire burns but they also believe that fire purifies.

Following independence, Hindus had renewed their hope and expectations, thinking they had sacrificed enough for their independence movement and had suffered enough through partition of their motherland. But they are starting to realize that their struggle to free their civilization and land is not over. They feel captives again, not by aliens anymore, but by a handful of malicious fellow citizens, often Hindus by birth themselves, who are bent upon to eradicate the essential Hindu nature of this country. They are seeing the grip of a conscious, concocted and colluded effort to remove Hindu-ness from all walks of life. In sixty years after partition, the country is slowly getting back to the same pre-partition days when the minorities were calling the shots and the leaders are only too eager to oblige.

There are clearly different sets of standards to deal with Hindus and Muslims now in independent India.

Hindu’s glorified history is suppressed; Muslims century old oppression is rationalized.

‘Jai Shri Ram’ is a communal call but ‘There is no other God but Allah’ sounds secular to the pacifist’s ears.

Sanskrit is allowed to be lost in oblivion; Urdu and Arabic learning is promoted.

The Government, the leaders, the pseudo-liberals and the media never fail to raise the Babri demolition or the post-Godhra riots in Gujarat as a justification of Muslim angst but conveniently forget the actions that led to the Hindu reactions in the first place.

Hindus are expected not to have any anger and grudge. But Muslim angst has to be compensated at all cost.

Muslim atrocities are rewarded with more concessions; autonomy is contemplated for violent secessionist, while the justified efforts of Hindus, fighting to prevent disintegration of the country, are throttled.

Hindus are not supposed to have any right to resent the centuries of oppression, the deaths and the plunders or to feel for the fellow victims of Islamic terrorism. They are expected to peacefully accept loot and carnage of their property, death of their father or brother or rape of their mother or sister for the sake of communal harmony.

Hindus are expected to accept in silence their exodus in lakhs from Muslim dominated Kashmir (from where now Sikhs are threatened out), but Muslims require special privileges and protection wherever they are minorities even if it is just meant to make them feel good.

Illegal Muslim immigrants are given citizenship to become vote pockets, but Hindu migrants are still refugees after 5 decades of partition?

Disregarding constitutional rights, special advantages are being doled out to Muslims in job and education, just because of their religious affiliation. But the same privileges do not reach the Hindus, even from the poorest economic background.

Hindu temples remain in dilapidated condition while temple money is siphoned off for government expenses? Hindus have to beg for a mere 100 acre of land in Amarnath while unlimited government funds are spent on Haj terminals buildings and trips to Mecca?

Do the Hindus have the right to lament the amputation of their Bharatmata? If Pakistan was curved out for Muslims, is it inappropriate to ask Hindustan for Hindus or at least have equal rights as for Muslims in India? Then how are Hindus expected to react to their Prime Minister’s announcement that Muslims must have first claim to the countries resources?

So was it unexpected that some Hindus would start protesting?

Indeed it is surprising that the saffron fire has not yet motivated many more of the kinds of Kshudiram Bose or Prafulla Chaki, Shivaram Rajguru or Madanlal Dhingra to join the struggle? Perhaps it is symbolic that one of the first revolutions against the British raj was that of the Sanyasis, based on which, Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay wrote his famous novel, Anandamath, which gave us the Vande Mataram song and this time one of the main accused in the so called Hindu or saffron terror happens to be a Sadhvi.

When a body is threatened by cancer, a surgeon’s knife is often the best option to save the individual. It is traumatic but life saving, painful but rewarding. Its destruction paves the path of regeneration and re-creation. Hindus believe in the same universal philosophy of destruction and creation. They believe in their God who reincarnates to save the planet from evil and propagate further creation.

Destruction or killing in the name of religion is never initiated by Hindus. But it is wrong to assume that Hindus will tolerate atrocities and adharma eternally for they also believe that acceptance of adharma is not merely cowardice, it is also sinful. To pacify them, they are constantly reminded, Ahimsa Paramo Dharma (Non-violence is the ultimate dharma) but they know there scripture also adds Dharma himsa tathaiva cha. (So too is violence in service of Dharma).

Our history recounts that whenever the need came, Hindus resistance came in the form of a Prithviraj or a Rana Pratap; a Shivaji or a Guru Gobind Singh; a Bhagat Singh or a Subhash Bose. They are considered great sons of the soil. Hindus consider them martyrs, cherish their memories and feel glorified by their self sacrifice. Their resistance to eradicate injustice and oppression is not terror. Their war is dharma-yuddha against evil, like the one that happened in Kurukshetra, where the Lord Krishna himself supervised.

Hindusthan has seen tyrant fanatics like Aurangzeb and traitors like Jaichand before. History will say how the current leaders will be remembered in future.

But one thing is for sure, if the call to save Hindusthan comes again it will be the saffron flag-bearing Hindus who will do or die for it. Hindus will not let it go without a fight.

The whole world should be declared Ground Zero. No mosques anywhere. Period.

Fitzgerald: Islam’s Double-Faced Triumphalism: Destruction and Mosque-Building

Posted by Hugh on August 19, 2010 5:18 AM

A Hamas leader recently approved of the mosque at Ground Zero, saying: “We have to build everywhere.”

How many mosques have been built in this country already, thanks in large part to the nearly one hundred billion dollars that Saudi Arabia alone has spent to spread Islam over the past few decades, in the United States? How many tens of thousands of mosques in recent decades all over the countries of the West have been built, and how many madrasas? Who pays for such things as the mosque, for only 100 families, that cost fifteen million dollars, in Billerica, Massachusetts? Who pays for all of those lavish palaces all over the place, that could not possibly have been put up by those who go to them? Who pays for the campaigns of Da’wa targeted at prisoners? Who pays for the Qur’ans sent out by the millions in the Western world? Who understands that a mosque is far more than a “place of worship” as some fondly believe but is, rather, a place where far more than that goes on, where politics, and geopolitics, are inculcated, where — at least in Western Europe and in south Asia — again and again and again it has been observed that people are whipped up at the khutbas (the sermons at the Friday Prayers), so much so that maddened Muslims coming out of mosques have gone on rampages against non-Muslims.

A particularly memorable example is that of the helpless Hindu who, happening to pass by as Friday Prayers were being let out, was beaten to death by Muslims who were just coming out of that “house of worship.” How many raids, on how many mosques, have been conducted in Western Europe, where false papers of all kinds, and weapons, and explosives, were found, some in false ceilings and other hiding places? When Erdogan said that “the mosques are our barracks,” he was quoting a well-known line, one that expressed a view that many Muslims have — the “mosque” is not only or merely a “house of worship” but the “barracks” in the permanent war that exists, that must exist, between Muslim and Infidel.

How many mosques have been deliberately built deliberately using the remains of temples, churches, synagogues? How many mosques were built in India, after Muslim invaders destroyed Hindu temples and temple complexes, including many of the most important ones, and quarried the stone to make mosques? Nor were Hindus the only ones to suffer. Hindu temples and temple complexes disappeared by the hundred, by the thousands. Sita Ram Goel published a two-volume work that simply listed, name by name, those Hindu temples and temple complexes known to have been destroyed by Muslims, and the stone quarried for use in mosques.

We all know, because of the diligent scholarship of Indian and British scholars, along with others from other Western lands, such as Koenraad Elst and Francois Gautier, what the Muslim invaders, the Muslim conquerors, the Muslim masters of India, did to India’s Hindus, so damaging “the wonder that was India” that it became what V. S. Naipaul famously called a “wounded civilization.” Everywhere the Muslims went they destroyed the monuments, and especially the temples and temple complexes, of the Hindus. The more famous and important the Hindu temple, the more important it was for Muslims to destroy it, to build right on its ruins, to declare – through such destruction followed by such building – that they indeed were visibly and permanently there, and there to stay, as the masters of the land. We have all heard about Babri Mosque built over the temple at Ayodha, but how many other celebrated temples and vast complexes were destroyed?

This practice of deliberately destroying the monuments and artifacts of non-Islamic civilization began at the very beginning of the Muslim conquest of India. Indeed, the very first mosque known to have been built in India was built using stone from a Jain temple (the Jains are those who refuse to kill, to hurt a fly). One opens “The World of Islam” by Ernst J. Grube (Curator, Islamic Department, Metropolitan Museum of Art), part of the series “Landmarks of the World’s Art,” and finds on p. 165 a picture of the “Kutb Mosque (Quwaat al-Islam) Delhi” shown and described:

“Built by Kutb al-din Aibak in his fortress of Lallkot near Old Delhi in 1193. This mosque is the earliest extant monument of Islamic architecture in India and its combination of local, pre-Muslim traditions and imported architectural forms is typical of the earliest period. The mosque is built on the ruins of a Jain temple…”

So the earliest “extant monument of Islamic architecture in India” was “built on the ruins of a Jain temple” — that temple being made into “ruins,” of course, by the Muslim invaders.

Wherever Muslim invaders went and conquered, they did not do so always by outright military means with an invading army, as in the case of the East Indies, where Hadrami traders came and settled, bringing Islam with them. What began as trading outposts became settlements that, in turn, became fortified, and places from which the Muslims would conduct campaigns of Da’wa. They deliberately targeted local rulers in the East Indies that were once entirely Hindu and Buddhist. And if those rulers, as in Java and Sumatra, could be persuaded to convert to Islam, their people would, in those simpler days of cuius regio, eius religio, would then “convert” their people, who would have little choice but to follow their lead. It happened in Java. It happened in Sumatra.

You can still find, especially on Bali, with its considerable Hindu population, Hindu and Buddhist structures. You can even find the celebrated Borubudur stupa, and you are delighted – are you not, but now with a pang knowing what you know, and what you fear could happen – to find such structures. After all, the two gigantic Bamiyan buddhas seemed exempt from destruction by the Muslims who reduced so much of the Greco-Bactrian civilization to rubble. Why did they wait so long? Because they had to, because until recently they didn’t have the right explosives, nor the proper expertise, until Pakistani and Saudi engineers came along to help them.

How many Buddhist structures remain in the most heavily Muslim parts of the East Indies, that is, Indonesia, such as Aceh? Where are all the Hindu and Buddhist temples that once could be found everywhere in the East Indies, for they were Hindu and Buddhist, until the forces of Islam conquered — not by direct military conquest as in the Middle East, North Africa, and India, but through other means. Where did they all go?

An early Umayyad caliph decided that “the furthest mosque” (al-masjid al-aksa), that mysterious place from which Muhammad was said to ascend to the Seventh Heaven on his winged horse Al-Buraq, and then return within the same 24-hour period, should be located in Jerusalem, a city never of Muslim interest (not mentioned even once in the Qur’an). Why did he decide that surely the place referred to must be Jerusalem, and the very spot from which the “Miraj” or Night Journey took place must surely be right on the highest spot, the one holiest of all those in the world to Jews, that is, the Temple Mount? It was there that the Mosque of Omar and the Dome of the Rock lay claim to Jerusalem for Islam, as over against the claims of the prior-in-time monotheisms, Judaism and Christianity.

If the association and significance of the Temple Mount for Jews is clear, it might be noted that the celebrated Arabic-and-Aramaic philologist Christoph Luxenberg studied closely the Arabic-language inscriptions that are inside and very high up in the dome itself of the Dome of the Rock. He has argued that these are not, as everyone seems to assume, Qur’anic — i.e., Muslim — in nature but are, rather, Christian in their content, which suggests a Christian origin for the building.

What Muslims did in placing a mythical mosque (“al-masjid al-aksa”) right there, and then building on the holiest site to Jews, in a city holy to Jews and Christians, was staking a claim that only other Muslims might believe. After all, you have to believe that a man named Muhammad had a fabulous creature, Al-Buraq, upon which he went back and forth to the Seventh Heaven, and then you further have to accept that “al-masjid al-aksa” must be a reference to Jerusalem and the Temple Mount.

But you do not have to be a Believer in Judaism to know that for more than a thousand years the Jews had made their capital, spiritual and political, in Jerusalem, where their history was made. You do not have to be a Believer in Christianity to know that Christianity has its origins in what Christians call the Holy Land, and especially in events that took place in Jerusalem. That difference matters.

In Damascus itself, the famous Umayyad mosque, the one that is shown to all visiting dignitaries, turns out to have been built on the ruins (or in some cases parts of the church left not in ruins, but simply incorporated) of the famous church dedicated to St. John The Baptist. It took a while, however, for this to happen. After all, whenever the marauding Arabs, bringing Islam with them, conquered, they found established communities of Christians, Jews and, in Persia, Zoroastrians. These people did not disappear; they were not converted in large numbers overnight. It took centuries of having to endure Muslim rule, and the status of being reduced to tolerated dhimmis, that is, a status of humiliation, degradation, and physical insecurity, that led inexorably to more and more people converting to Islam, to join the group of permanent overlords and masters. The pace of such conversion quickened as those who had remained steadfast saw so many others convert, thereby changing their status and at once improving their treatment. In the 7th century, after the Muslim Arabs had conquered Damascus in 635 A.D., local Christians (who were by far the majority still) continued to worship in several churches. They even continued to worship at St. John’s, though now confined only to the western aisle, while Muslims used the eastern. The Muslim overlords were still vastly outnumbered, as they were everywhere in the lands the Arabs conquered, and had to proceed slowly. Eventually, about seventy years after the initial conquest, the Umayyad caliph Abd el-Melek took over the entire St. John’s for Muslim use – that is, St. John’s became an Umayyad mosque, and with building, and rebuilding, and destruction of parts that had been St. John’s, and the use of the stone, and the turning to other uses of some of its walls, what had been the Church of St. John became the Umayyad Mosque we see today, a symbol of Umayyad power and might and of the victory over the local Christians.

In Constantinople, which for a thousand years was the largest, richest, most populous city in all of Christendom, there were hundreds of churches. The greatest of them all was the Hagia Sophia.

On May 29, 1453, after centuries of first the Seljuk, then the Osmanli Turks seizing control of ever larger parts of what had been the Byzantine Empire, the Muslim invaders finally conquered Constantinople. They razed many of the churches in the city. Western visitors can find a diorama of Constantinople, showing its hundreds of churches before the Muslim conquest, and be amazed at how on every corner there seemed to be another church. That diorama is discreetly tucked away on an upper floor of the Museum of Greek and Roman Antiquities, in the Topkapi complex, in present-day Istanbul. But not all the churches were razed. And the Hagia Sophia was not razed, but was turned into a mosque, a sign of what Mehmet Fatih, Mehmet the Conqueror, had done, a symbol of Muslim triumph.

Two decades ago, as Muslims began to make their demands on the host countries that had so generously and heedlessly allowed them to settle deep within Western Europe, that is, behind the borders that Muslims themselves were taught to regard as enemy lines, the lines of Dar al-Harb, the Domain of War, in Italy President Pertino thought that Muslims in Italy might respond with gratitude, and Muslims outside of Italy might even make it more possible for the millions of Christians, both indigenous and among the millions of guest-workers in the rich oil states of the Gulf, to open churches and to practice their faith. It was not to be. Government land was donated for the building of a huge mosque, not a mile from the Vatican, but when it was built, and when the Arab Ambassadors arrived at the ceremonies to open the mosque, there was no talk of gratitude, and certainly no talk of any reciprocal gesture, by any Arab or Muslim state, anywhere. Italian witnesses of the event spoke of the air of triumphalism, the palpable feeling that a beachhead for Islam had, with this giant mosque, been created. Those Italians who watched, with growing unease, would have been still more uneasy, had they known that among Muslims there is a belief, based on a story, or Hadith, about Muhammad predicting that first Constantinople or Rum (Byzantium) would fall to Islam, and then Rome, the Rome in Italy, would fall to Islam. The giant mosque was a symbol for Pertini, and other Italians, of Western, of Italian, tolerance and goodwill and trust. But for the Muslims present, the giant mosque built on land donated by the Italian state had nothing to do with tolerance, or trust, or good will that needed to be, or might be, reciprocated by the Muslim beneficiaries of that tolerance, that trust, that good will.

And Mayor Bloomberg, who has confused himself with President George Washington, and the Grand Zero Mosque with the Touro Synagogue in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, and Feisal Abdul Rauf, a most cunning and most sinister man (to fully understand both adjectives, however, you would have to know him not as Mayor Bloomberg knew him, as an ingratiating, even oily, interlocutor, but through his books, the Arabic and English versions of which can be compared) with Moses Seixas, is now making the same mistake.

After Hindus, now the Sikhs.

Is it time to say ENOUGH?

Is it time to say:

enough of appeasement

enough of special privileges

enough of minority rights

enough of ‘peaceful religion’

enough of ‘all muslims are not terrorist’ (speak out or you will be considered so)?

Is it time to pay back?

Embrace Islam or leave Valley, Sikhs threatened

M Saleem Pandit, TNN, Aug 20, 2010, 12.23am IST

SRINAGAR:

Sikhs in the Kashmir Valley have received anonymous letters from Islamic militants asking them to either embrace Islam and join the protests against civilian killings or pack up and leave the Valley. The 60,000-strong Sikh community is the single largest minority group in the Valley.

An organisation of Kashmiri Sikhs said that several community members have received these letters. “Community members have received unsigned letters at various places,” said All Party Sikh Coordination Committee (ASCC) coordinator Jagmohan Singh Raina. He said the community has decided to stay put and fight these “evil designs” at a meeting in Srinagar on Thursday.

Raina quoted a letter as saying: “When you are enjoying the joys here, why can’t you share the grief and sorrow of Kashmiris as well? We know you are afraid of bullets… Hold protests inside gurdwaras or leave Kashmir.” He added, “Some letters have asked Sikhs to embrace Islam.”

Raina urged both factions of the Hurriyat, JKLF and PoK-based United Jihad Council to take serious note of the threats to maintain amity and brotherhood in the Valley.

Hardline separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani has reassured the Sikhs saying they shouldn’t feel threatened and should ignore the “fake letters”. He assured the community that nobody would force them to join the protests.

Earlier, Geelani has made an emotional appeal against forcing minorities to join the protests and said harming them would be like “inflicting a wound on his (Geelani’s) body”.

The state unit of Akali Dal (Badal) president Ajeet Singh Mastana described the threats as acts by anti-social elements. “The threats can’t break us and reduce our love for our motherland,” he said.

Accusation of rape and specially gang-rape gives an immediate and almost ‘perverted’ sensationalization, specially if the victim is a nun. This art has been mastered as a weapon, quite aptly by Christian groups, against Hindus, who try to fight against the unethical and illegal conversion attempts and other evangelical atrocities of the harvestors of souls, that includes murder of  religious figures.

It is almost a warning to protesting Hindus, “Do not fight us or else we will invent a gangrape of a nun”.

One may recall the Jhabua nun-rape case, where the knee jerk repsonse was that it must be the handiwork of the majority community, the Hindu fundamentalists, backed by every organization that works for the cause of Hindus in this land. Later it was found that the four Christian tribal nuns were raped by a group of  people consisting mostly of Christian men.

Off course the media gets almost an erotic pleasure in ‘selectively reporting’ and ‘investigating’ such false accusations. The ignorant Hindus, trusting these media reports and investigations, hang their head in shame. The desired damage is effectively done. Lies and deceptive propagandas make their lasting effects on gullible minds. Who cares if truth is sacrificed.

And when the truth does comes out their is never an apology rendered to those who are falsely accused.

By then, the liars are planning to hatch the next ‘rape-case’.

A conspiracy unravels

Sandhya Jain

Was the alleged rape of a nun, following the assassination of Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati and four sanyasis in Kandhamal on Krishna Janmasthami, August 23, 2008, an afterthought by missionaries targeted by enraged Hindus? Was it a planned vengeance, aimed at garnering the international spotlight and forcing Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to break his alliance with the BJP, which empathised with the Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s anger at the murder of its octogenarian leader?

The questions are legitimate given Fr Thomas Chellan’s admission in court on July 26 that he did not report the alleged rape of the nun when filing the first information report with the police on August 26, 2008. The Baliguda Catholic Church pastor, a key witness in the case, admitted during cross-examination before Cuttack district and sessions judge Bira Kishore Mishra that he had not mentioned the alleged rape in the FIR filed a day after the incident is said to have occurred. His complaint caused the arrest of 23 people.

The alleged rape of the 29-year-old nun from Sambalpur is said to have occurred on August 25 in Kandhamal district, a day after agitated Hindus went on the rampage to protest the gunning down of Swami Laxmanananda and his disciple-monks in the precincts of his own ashram. Swami Laxmanananda had previously escaped several attempts on his life and had received death threats from missionaries infuriated by his anti-conversion activities.

The nun worked at Divyajyoti Pastoral Centre at K Nugaon block. She was reportedly dragged out of a retired head clerk’s house by 40-odd armed men who chanted “Bharat Mata ki Jai,” taken to the office of an NGO, Jan Vikash, where one man allegedly raped her. At that time, 12 policemen of the Odisha State Armed Police were camping in a school in front of the NGO’s office. The nun identified the main accused as Santosh Patnaik, alias Mitu.

Fr Chellan was reportedly beaten and paraded half-naked on the road the same day. He identified two accused in court as being part of the mob that attacked his church, but had failed to identify either man during the test identification parade held at Choudwar jail last year. The case was initially committed to a fast-track court in Kandhamal that was trying all riot cases, but was transferred to a sessions court in Cuttack after the nun petitioned that she felt unsafe in Kandhamal. (This is now the standard refrain in all anti-Hindu cases; Gujarat’s former Minister Amit Shah is only the latest victim.)

Interestingly, Dr Chotray Marandia, who first treated the nun after the alleged assault-cum-rape, testified on August 28 that she had only complained of swelling on her face. “I only treated the swelling on her face and she did not complain of anything else,” he replied when asked by defence lawyers about other injuries on her body. So we have no evidence of rape.

The then block development officer, Mr BB Mishra, testified that he had accompanied the nun and priest to the local police station to file their complaint about the mob attack. Both thus had full official protection while filing the complaint, and cannot claim that the police did not record the FIR properly, or that the rape charge was ignored by the police. These testimonies are damning.

That the rape is most likely a fabrication can be seen from the nervousness of the prosecution. Earlier, her lawyers had sought a month’s time for the nun to appear before the court. This is suspicious to say the least, but fits in with the church’s hiding the nun from the local people and producing a veiled woman with a thick Malayalam accent at a Press conference in Delhi. Interestingly, last Saturday the nun failed to identify the key accused at a test identification parade.

The Church-prosecution embarrassment has been aggravated by the June 12 arrest of Pandit Bishimajhi for allegedly plotting to kill the nun and priest to prevent them from testifying against the mob. It was alleged that Bishimajhi led several mob attacks, one of which stripped and paraded the nun and Fr Chellan, and is thus complicit in the fast-disintegrating rape case.

It may be appropriate to put the anti-missionary violence in context. The Kandhamal violence erupted after the murder of Swami Laxmanananda, whose tireless efforts to uplift the tribal communities and protect their religion and culture against aggressive proselytisation infuriated the evangelists and Maoist goons (mostly converts). The Swami was severely injured in an attack on Christmas eve in 2007, and had then accused a Congress MP and World Vision chief for the attack. He alleged a nexus between Maoist terrorists and missionaries; which is why when Maoists claimed responsibility for the killings, public ire was directed at the missionaries. Certainly the murders had a purely religious motivation; Odisha has in recent years seen an influx of rich American Baptists for soul-harvesting purposes.

Beginning on December 26, 1970, Swami Laxmanananda was attacked eight times before he was finally struck down by AK-47-wielding assailants in 2008, according to the fact-finding commission chaired by Additional Advocate-General of Rajasthan, GS Gill. Soon after the multiple murders in the ashram, the State police arrested World Vision employee Pradesh Kumar Das while escaping from the district. Later, two men, Vikram Digal and William Digal, were arrested from the house of a local militant Christian, Lal Digal, at Nugaon; they admitted having joined a group of 28 assailants. Then, in July 2009, a Maoist couple, Surendra Vekwara and Ruby, also allegedly involved in the killings, surrendered to the Odisha Police. One does not know how the State Government intends to prosecute the cases against these persons, especially as the sensational rape case is silently falling apart.

However, as I have previously argued, the murder of Swami Laxmanananda closely resembles the murder of Swami Shanti Kaliji Maharaj in Tripura in August 2000. The latter was also shot in his own ashram by gun-wielding goons after several dire warnings against his anti-conversion activities in the tribal belt were ignored. Swami Laxmanananda’s murder prompted Biju Janata Dal MP Tathagata Satpathy to insist that there was an urgent need for an anti-conversion legislation as aggressive proselytisation was hurting the social fabric.

Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati had, just before his murder, demanded a national debate on conversions and an end to the foreign funding of NGOs. This is an urgent imperative.
